Current Skin Care Favorites (May 2016)

SKIN copy

You know that moment when you look in the mirror and see not a single blemish on your
face, then jump up and down for joy and thank the skin god’s for finally giving you a break? No, just me? Okay. For a majority of my life I have had a constant up and down battle with my super sensitive acne prone oily skin, so whenever my skin is behaving I am overjoyed.

For the past few weeks I have been able to feel completely comfortable throughout the day with no foundation or concealer on and letting my skin breath. It’s not on the list but not wearing makeup has indeed been on of my skin care favorites this month. Also I have been eating a ton of fruit and I think that has something to do with it as well.

The last time I did a skin care favorites post was in October so this is long over due. Most of those products I don’t use anymore because the season has changed and so has my skin. I’ve also got quite a few new products at Beauty Con Dallas, which my lovely fellow blogger friend, Shae Lisa, invited to me too. I got so many skin and hair care things that I will eventually share with y’all but one product in particular stood out to me. Keep reading to find out what it was and my other favorite skin care products this month.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Scrub ( $ 4 – $5 )

Queen Helene is a go to brand when you’re skin is being extra difficult. Not only is this  product all natural but it is also super effective and super affordable for the quality. The exfoliating beads are small so they aren’t painful, which is great for sensitive skin, and also able to really get in the pores. I typically use this 3 to 4 times a week after I remove all my make up.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask ($3 – $6 depending on the size)

The scrub and the mask together are magical. I’ve used the mask for years, my mom uses it my grandmother uses it and I’m pretty sure my great grand mother used it. Coat over black heads and they’re gone, apply a dot of it to a pimple and it’s dead, cover your entire face in it and see your pores disappear. This product is good for all skin types and can be used right before you start your day or right before you go to bed, either way you need this product in your life. I love using the scrub first then the mask, because the healing ingredients in the mask really penetrate my pores after exfoliating.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask ( $4.30)

I can talk about my love for black african soap for hours. I introduced it to my skin care routine about 2 years ago and ever since it’s been a irreplaceable part of my daily routine. Pure raw black african soap keeps my breakouts at a minimum, but I’ve tried many different brands. So far my favorites have been Shea Moisture Black African Soap & OKAY. OKAY does make the skin tingle a bit more because it’s in a pure bar form, it hasn’t been shaven down or refined for softness but trust me it works.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water ( $8.99)

I typically don’t use makeup removers because they make me break out or don’t actually get my makeup off. But I noticed that just going straight into washing my face and not removing my makeup was making the process even longer, so when I received the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water in my Beauty Con Dallas swag bag I was very intrigued. I’ve seen the commercials but didn’t really think a bottle of water labeled makeup remover was worth all the hype, but I was so wrong. I don’t know what micells are or how they work but they do really lift everything off your face in just a couple of swipes.

Garnier Skin Renew Dark Spot Corrector Daily Moisturizer ( $5.99)

I’ve previously used the Garnier Skin Dark Spot Correcting Overnight Peel and it didn’t eliminate my acne scars completely but is reduced their appearance pretty significantly. The only problem I had with that product is that it wasn’t a product I could use every day because the acidity of the gel. So when I saw an every day use moisturizer version I was intrigued. If you have oily skin you do indeed still need to moisturize your skin, not using one will actually cause more oil build up. No only is this light weight it does work, in the first week of use I saw my acne scars decreasing.

If you try any of these products and love them as much as I do, let me know on @FitChicksTX. Have a great memorial day weekend everyone. Be happy, be healthy, & be fit! ❤
